Budget for 2026-27 approved by Councillors
Following a recent public consultation, Forest of Dean District Council has approved its budget for the coming financial year, providing a clear and stable foundation for the continued delivery of high‑quality local services and sustained investment in communities across the district.
Cabinet Member for Finance, Cllr Andy Moore, said:
“I am delighted that councillors have been able to agree this budget. In a period of real uncertainty, and with the challenging backdrop of local government reorganisation, reaching this point is no small achievement.
“This budget gives us the stability and confidence we need to keep delivering the high‑quality services our residents rely on, while continuing to invest in the future of the district.
“Despite the financial pressures facing councils across the country, we have delivered a balanced budget that brings several key services back in house and funds a range of progressive projects that will make a real difference to our residents.
“I would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s budget consultation.”
As part of the agreed budget, and in alignment with the priorities outlined in the Council Plan, the Council has allocated funding to support resilient communities, advance its climate commitments, and deliver ambitious projects that will provide lasting value for residents and businesses.
Forest of Dean District Council’s budget is funded through Council Tax paid by residents, a share of business rates, and income from services such as parking and government grants. Just over 9% of the total Council Tax bill paid by residents goes to the District Council. The majority is allocated to Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Police, with the remainder going to local town and parish councils.
The District Council is responsible for services including waste collection, planning, licensing, housing, parking and leisure. Gloucestershire County Council delivers other services such as road maintenance, adult social care, education, children’s services and public health.
The Forest of Dean District Council portion of this year’s Council Tax bill will rise by 2.99%, equivalent to £6.34 for Band D properties.

Cllr Moore added:
“Setting Council Tax is never an easy decision, and thanks to the savings we have made we have been able to keep the increase as low as possible. We recognise, however, that any rise may be difficult for some residents.
