Cabinet Visit - Freedom Leisure Sedbury

Councillors see first-hand the vital role of Forest leisure centres

Cabinet members from Forest of Dean District Council have been given a behind-the-scenes look at the wide range of facilities, activities and services available at the district's four leisure centres during a series of visits hosted by Freedom Leisure.

Members visited Freedom Leisure centres in Cinderford, Lydney, Newent and Sedbury, where they met staff, toured facilities and learned more about the programmes helping residents of all ages stay active, healthy and connected.

The visits provided an opportunity to see first-hand the breadth of activities on offer, from swimming and fitness classes to gym facilities, sports activities and health and wellbeing programmes that support communities across the Forest of Dean.

The council works in partnership with Freedom Leisure, a not-for-profit leisure trust, to provide leisure services throughout the district, helping residents access affordable opportunities to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

Councillor Jackie Dale, Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities, said:

"It was fantastic to visit all four of our leisure centres and see the range of services and activities available to residents across the Forest of Dean.

"Our leisure centres play an important role in supporting healthier lifestyles, bringing communities together and providing opportunities for people of all ages to stay active.

"We are committed to working with Freedom Leisure to ensure residents continue to benefit from quality leisure facilities, and it was encouraging to see the dedication and enthusiasm of staff delivering these services every day."

During the visits, members were able to see recent improvements made across a number of sites and hear about ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience and ensure facilities continue to meet the needs of local communities.

Iona Keyse, Area Manager at Freedom Leisure, said:

"We were delighted to welcome councillors to our centres and showcase the fantastic facilities, activities and community programmes available across the Forest of Dean.

"Our teams work incredibly hard to create welcoming environments where people can improve their health and wellbeing, learn new skills and connect with others.

"Whether you're looking to join a gym, enjoy a swim, take part in a fitness class or simply become more active, there is something for everyone at our centres."
