Deputy Leader of Forest of Dean District Council, Cllr Paul Hiett to chair Community Safety Partnership in 2023

Forest of Dean District Council has underlined its commitment to working with partners to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the district, with Deputy Leader of Forest of Dean District Council and Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Paul Hiett re-elected as chair of the Community Safety Partnership for 2023, with Cllr Di Martin re-elected as vice-chair.

Deputy Leader of Forest of Dean District Council, Cllr Paul Hiett said:

“We want to ensure that people across the Forest of Dean feel safe in their communities and this partnership with other organisations will continue to help fight crime and reduce the fear of crime for our residents.

“The Community Safety Partnership annually reviews local priorities and will continue to work with residents to help tackle problems in their local area.

“This scheme could not work without the commitment of its partners and I would like to thank everyone involved in this partnership and look forward to working with residents across the Forest to help make our District the best it can be.”

As one of the statutory members of the Community Safety Partnership, Forest of Dean District Council work to understand and coordinate a local response to the needs and priorities of Forest communities, working with others such as Gloucestershire Police and Fire to help reduce crime in the area by producing an action plan that help tackle issues such as criminal damage, hate crime, anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Work has begun in tackling arson incidents in Cinderford, with children in the area receiving education on the dangers of fire with the help of local schools and with those identified as being involved in the incidents being referred to Skillzone to undertake Fire Intervention training.

Working collaboratively with partners, the Council also delivers drug awareness sessions to young people across the Forest of Dean through schools, youth clubs and other interested organisations, with members of the Forest of Dean District Council Street Warden Team visiting to provide young people with information of the dangers of drug use.

Community Safety Lead at Forest of Dean District Council, Damion Collins said:

“The Community Safety Partnership works with people across the district to help them feel safe and welcome in their community and work with residents, businesses and partners to discuss issues and to ensure that those problems are dealt with.

“I would encourage any residents who are experiencing problems in their area to follow the advice provided by the Community Safety Partnership to help us eradicate those issues.”
