District Council provides advice for Platinum Jubilee street parties
Forest of Dean District Council is providing advice for residents who want to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by holding a street party on the first weekend of June this year.
Advice for safely hosting street parties to celebrate the Jubilee, including applying for temporary licences and road closures can be found here: https://www.fdean.gov.uk/jubileestreetparty/
Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Paul Hiett, said,
“70 years in service is a tremendous achievement for our Queen, and it is fantastic that the Jubilee is happening now that Covid-19 restrictions have been removed, meaning that we can celebrate it as a community together.
“If you and your neighbours are interested in hosting a street party, but are not sure how to go about organising one, please check out our web page. The page has been set up to give you all the info you need to ensure your party is organised safely. It will also give you an indication of whether you need to apply for a temporary licence or not. Even if you do not need to apply for a licence or road closure, it is also a good idea to let all of your neighbours know ahead of the party.”
The District Council web page explains that for the majority of small, private street parties, organising them can be simple and people will most likely not need to apply for a licence. However, larger events or those that will be selling alcohol or holding live performances, will need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice, which costs £21. To apply and find out more visit https://www.gov.uk/temporary-events-notice/forest-of-dean/apply
Residential cul-de-sacs or other minor roads not used for through traffic routes may be able to apply for a temporary road closure to host a street party. There is no charge for this application, but applications must be submitted by 31 March 2022, to apply and find out more, visit the Council’s Jubilee event page: https://www.fdean.gov.uk/jubileestreetparty/
