Forest Lottery helping to secure funding for FRED
The Forest Lottery has continued its good works by securing valuable funding for local charity Forest Read Easy Deal (FRED), enabling vital support for adults across the district to develop their reading and writing skills.
Having recently joined the Forest Lottery in June 2021, FRED have begun to secure valuable funding through the Forest Lottery and will be using this to offer further assistance to those who might benefit.
Cllr Richard Leppington said:
“The Forest Lottery really does help causes in the local area and it’s incredible to see just how lottery funding can benefit causes such as FRED and how it supports its community.
“The one-to-one guidance provided by the coaches at FRED helps so many people across the district and I’m really pleased to see that they have signed up and can continue to thrive with the Forest Lottery.
“Forest Lottery gives residents an opportunity to champion causes that are close to their heart and the support provided by FRED is an example of the great work your ticket contributes to. With over £40,000 raised over the past 12 months, we’d encourage all who are interested to get involved and start fundraising with the Forest Lottery.”
FRED aims to provide quality support for learners that is easily accessible, believing that one of the most important aspects of supporting adults with low literacy levels is to increase their self-esteem and persuade them of the benefits of improving their reading and writing. To do this, the group provides free one-to-one support for adults in the Forest of Dean and to date they have helped over 100 people in the district improve their basic literacy skills.
An adult learner who has used the service commented to say:
“I am dyslexic and have been working with my reading coach for several months. I now have much more confidence and my coach has encouraged me to take on some voluntary work which I am really enjoying. I have also just achieved an English qualification at college and plan to continue with my education.”
Chris Warren, Treasurer at FRED said:
“Despite only recently signing up to the Forest Lottery it’s clear to see just how much help it can provide to causes in the area. The continuous fundraising from Forest Lottery ticket sales will enable us to provide remote assistance to our learners and help us to bring extra coaches on board to assist learners in developing the skills to take their reading and writing to the next level.
“We’d like to thank all who buy Forest Lottery tickets for their support and look forward to helping even more people through FRED.”
The Forest Lottery helps causes in the Forest of Dean. There are over 60 causes to choose from, with the chosen cause receiving 50% of the £1 ticket and an additional 10% going to further support the local community.
If anyone is looking to brush up on their reading or writing skills, or if they’re interested in becoming a volunteer to help the small Management Team expand and promote the service, FRED would love to hear from them. Please visit their website at the below link:
