Forest of Dean District Council to purchase Pyart Court in Coleford
Forest of Dean District Council is delighted to announce that it has agreed to purchase the Pyart Court Shopping Centre, a prominent and important commercial centre in the heart of Coleford.
Leader of Forest of Dean District Council, Cllr Tim Gwilliam said:
“Pyart Court is an exciting purchase for the Forest of Dean District Council and for the businesses and residents who currently use the site.
“We want this site to continue to be successful, not only for the businesses currently there, but also as a place for new businesses to grow in the Forest of Dean. In completing the purchase of Pyart Court we can ensure its long term security and improvements can be made so that business can continue to thrive in Coleford.”
Pyart Court offers a range of services and shops, a number of which have been at the property for many years. A retail scheme such as this offers not only a range of established occupiers but it is also a “seedbed” for new businesses.
It is anticipated that there will be some improvements made to the property over time and which will include installations to help with reducing energy usage and costs. The property adjoins the council owned car park and therefore, in the longer term, offers potential for improvement of the public realm and links to other parts of the town centre.
Discussions with tenants who currently occupy the site at Pyart Court have begun and they have been made aware of the purchase. The District Council will now work with the current occupiers to sustain and promote this successful retail scheme in the centre of the town.
Cabinet Member for Finance, Cllr Richard Leppington said:
“Pyart Court is a well-loved area of Coleford that has been used for many years by local residents and we look forward to making improvements to the site so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.
“As the district council, we want to help local people and support businesses across the Forest of Dean and this purchase gives us an opportunity to work with the occupiers at Pyart Court to ensure that the high street in Coleford continues to grow.”
