Leaders statement on Ukraine

A statement from Councillor Tim Gwilliam, Leader of Forest of Dean District Council on the situation in Ukraine.

Forest of Dean District Council is saddened and appalled at the recent events in Ukraine and condemns the actions of the Russian Government led by President Putin. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, how this will affect residents here in the Forest of Dean, and all those affected by the senseless devastation in the area.

The invasion of Ukraine is a tragedy for all across the world, including those in Russia who have been sent to war against democracy. Forest of Dean District Council sends its thoughts and support to residents in Russia and to those throughout the world who are bravely protesting against this unjustified invasion.

Gloucestershire has shown it has a habit of standing up and being counted when the call for help is sent and nowhere is more willing to help than the Forest of Dean. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and just as we have in other emergencies, I know that the Council and Forest of Dean residents will be doing everything they can to help and support.
