New affordable homes completed as development continues in Lydney

Sixteen new affordable homes have been delivered at a housing development on Highfield Hill in Lydney.

Registered provider partner of Forest of Dean District Council, Legal & General, took handover of 16 new affordable homes at Severn Meadows in Lydney.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Claire Vaughan, said,

“As we have been saying with the local plan proposals over the last couple of months, the number of homes that have to be built in the Forest of Dean district comes from the UK Government. We aren’t able to change that, but we can work with partners to ensure that new developments meet the needs of local residents and that they have a suitable number of affordable homes for rent and shared ownership homes on them.

”Severn Meadows in Lydney is a good example of this with a third of the homes set to be available for affordable rent or shared ownership by the time the development is completed next year.”

The latest affordable homes comprise 13 social rented homes and 3 shared ownership homes to help families step onto the housing ladder and own their own home. A range of property types from 1-bed flats, 2 bed houses through to large 4 bed family housing, were provided.

Severn Meadows is a mixed residential development of 107 new homes being developed by Barratt Homes.  This development, which is due to be completed during spring 2023 comprises a range of property types, and will provide 36 new affordable homes.

To date, 20 of the affordable homes have been delivered, with the remaining 16 affordable homes comprising 10 affordable rented homes and 6 shared ownership homes forecasted to be completed during Autumn 2002 through to Spring 2023.
