Together We Can with the Forest Lottery

Together We Can, an inclusive charity for people of all ages with disabilities, is a local cause in the Forest of Dean that has raised significant funding through the Forest Lottery, helping local people with disabilities get the support they need.

Cllr Richard Leppington said “It is great to hear of the positive impact the Forest Lottery has had on local causes and Together We Can in particular. It’s a local cause that is dear to many people’s hearts and it’s fantastic to know that the Forest Lottery has been able to assist them throughout the difficulty of the past eighteen months and the COVID-19 lockdowns.

“With over £40,000 being raised for local causes in the past 12 months alone, it is a real opportunity for local residents to give back to the causes in their area and is an example of the great work your Forest Lottery ticket contributes to. For any local causes who are looking to register, this is a safe and easy way to generate vital funding and we’d encourage all that are interested to get involved with the Forest Lottery.”

The Covid19 pandemic meant that many clubs, local organisations and charities were unable to raise funds in ways they had previously, or campaign using traditional methods.

The Forest Lottery, as an online fundraising source allows local causes to sign-up and continue to fundraise even during national lockdowns, helping residents to support a cause close to their heart and be in with a chance of winning a substantial prize.

Sarah Davies, Founder of Together We Can, said “The past couple of years have been really difficult for local causes such as us. Not only have we missed the interaction with our members, but being unable to meet up and fundraise in ways we have previously has been especially challenging.

“Through signing up and promoting the Forest Lottery on our social media pages, we’ve been able to raise funds and ensure the club continued. The money raised has been especially valuable in helping us to create activity packs that we sent home to members to ensure that nobody missed out, enabling everyone to stay connected.”

Together We Can organise meetings every Wednesday evening at Cinderford Rugby Club, with a different activity session planned every week. Recent events have included talent shows, firework displays, as well as baking and nutritional awareness sessions. These are planned and put on by volunteers, with a focus on participation, interaction and support. It's a local Forest of Dean cause that creates a place for all and enables parents, guardians and families a few hours of respite care.

The support and care provided by the team at Together We Can is a huge positive for parents, with one saying "My daughter attends Together We Can with her best friend and this is especially great because over the years, they have been split up due to the difference in their abilities.

"The club offers them a safe space to go and have fun together with the ability to make new friends. For me, as a parent, the two hours respite is highly appreciated and is important to me to know she is happy, safe and well looked after by an amazing team."

Your Forest Lottery ticket makes a real difference to local causes. There are over 60 registered causes to choose to help, with your chosen cause receiving 50% of the £1 ticket with an additional 10% going to further support the local community. Not only that, but there are weekly cash prizes to be won up to the value of the £25,000 jackpot.
