The Forest of Dean draft Local Plan is proposed to be updated following consultation with residents. The latest version of the plan will take into account feedback from residents and also include lower housing numbers than it previously did, before going back out to consultation in Spring 2024.

Forest of Dean District Council and partners including the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Warm and Well are working with local residents to establish the Forest Community Energy, a community forum and group set-up to help Forest residents, reduce energy bills for businesses, protect the environment and reduce carbon footprints.

Forest of Dean District Council is supporting emerging new government legislation which will increase the council tax payments on empty and second homes, with the aim of increasing the number of homes available for local people in the area.

On Saturday 30 September Forest of Dean District Council and SGS Forest High School, with the support of local partners, are hosting the Cinderford Community Showcase on the playing field at SGS Forest High.

The Forest of Dean District Council’s Street Warden team has won a gold ‘RSPCA PawPrints: Stray Dog Services Award’ for the 10th year running. In addition to this, the team was also awarded a bronze Contingency Planning Award.  

Residents will soon see construction activity at the Five Acres site as Forest of Dean District Council has chosen leading construction and property developer BAM to develop and build the new leisure, enterprise and education facility.

Forest of Dean residents are being urged to check their electoral registration details or risk losing their chance to vote on decisions that affect them as the Council starts its Annual Canvass to check everyone's voting details are up to date.

The Electoral Commission has been the subject of a complex cyber-attack, it has announced on 9^th August 2023. Forest of Dean District Council’s systems have not been affected by the data breach.

Forest of Dean District Council are today announcing the new recipients of the council’s community grant. 16 community groups from right across the district will receive the grant of up to £3000 to help them to develop their local communities.

Forest of Dean District Council will continue its commitment to homelessness prevention by providing more support to Ukrainian individuals, families, and other refugee groups in finding permanent homes.
