On 12 April 2021 the Forest of Dean’s leisure centres, operated by Freedom Leisure, reopened successfully. Residents can now enjoy the services on offer and return to exercise in the centres. 

Forest of Dean District Council’s Cabinet sat on 08 April to discuss mitigation of flooding in the area. In recent years flooding in the district has increased, putting communities and businesses at risk. 

Forest of Dean District Council is asking the local community to submit their ideas for consideration as part of the submission to Central Government for the Levelling Up Fund.

Voters across the Forest of Dean are being encouraged to make sure they are registered and have applied for postal voting if needed ahead of the deadlines so that they can vote in the local elections on 6 May. You are still able to vote in-person.

Forest of Dean District Council is inviting suggestions on where land in the district could be used for housing & employment uses, as it carries out its annual call for possible sites.

With the long Easter weekend only days away, residents in the Forest of Dean will now be able to add clean foil to their weekly kerbside recycling collection.

Council District Licensing scheme supports the creation of 8 new ponds for great crested newts in the Forest of Dean District. These ponds will be vital for a wide range of native wildlife, including newts, frogs and toads, which are experiencing national declines. 

The overflow car park located off the main Newerne Street Car Park in Lydney will be closed for general access from Wednesday 10 March.  

Forest of Dean District Council is working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to contact businesses in the Forest of Dean area to check they have COVID-secure measures in place and to help tackle coronavirus (COVID-19) in the local area.

This month saw a lucky winner scoop £2000 in the Forest Lottery making that the first big win of 2021 in the Forest of Dean District Council’s community lottery. 

In 2020 artists Denman+Gould were commissioned to create two public artworks for Lydney Harbour as part of the Destination Lydney Harbour project, funded by the Coastal Community Fund.
